Buying a new-build home should be exciting—not stressful. Yet rushed build schedules and overlooked details too often leave buyers facing costly defects or frustrating delays. That’s where I come in.

I’m an independent construction inspector with over 30 years of industry experience—ranging from hands-on groundworks to high-integrity defect reporting. I work solely for you, the homebuyer, with no ties to any developer or warranty provider. My goal is simple: to help ensure your home has been built properly, not just signed off.

Experience in Construction (30+ Years)

Throughout my career, I’ve held a wide range of site and inspection roles that directly inform the way I assess new-build properties today, including:

  • Precisely marking and verifying foundations and layouts on major housing developments

  • Acting as an independent site engineer, checking contractors’ work for accuracy, compliance, and alignment with plans

  • Managing full house builds for an independent residential developer—enabling close collaboration with all trades, often working hands-on to resolve coordination challenges between trades and deliver a fully co-ordinated, high-quality home

  • Redesigning drainage layouts on live sites to resolve buildability issues, reduce costs, or accelerate delivery—often resulting in my revisions being formally adopted into the final construction plans

  • Conducting independent defect and non-compliance inspections in the nuclear sector, where the highest level of scrutiny is required to eliminate hidden defects

  • Working directly with homebuyers, understanding what matters most: clear answers, trustworthy reports, and confidence in the quality of the build

Inspection Tools and Approach

I use modern inspection tools, including moisture meters and survey-grade equipment where appropriate, to uncover hidden or hard-to-detect defects. My approach is structured, impartial, and firmly based on industry best practice, with findings referenced against relevant building regulations, approved plans, and warranty standards.

Full Lifecycle Service

In addition to pre-completion & post-completion inspections, I offer an optional 18–22 month End-of-Warranty Inspection. This service helps identify any deterioration or defects before your builder’s warranty period expires, supporting you in fully protecting your rights under NHBC or other warranty schemes.

Aftercare Support – Helping You Be Effective

My support doesn’t end with the inspection. I provide practical tips to help you be effective when dealing with your builder, warranty provider (such as NHBC or LABC), or the New Homes Ombudsman if needed. This includes:

  • Presenting your snag list professionally

  • Documenting all communication and responses

  • Escalating issues calmly and confidently if they remain unresolved

While I do not act on your behalf or offer legal advice, I believe having the right knowledge from the start gives you the best chance of achieving a positive outcome and protecting your investment.

Turnaround Times

Your report is delivered within 48 hours of the inspection—often sooner. In some cases, next-day delivery is possible. This enables you to act quickly with your builder before any issues become harder to access or resolve.
